Like much of my recent work, Sacred is a project about the connection between humans and nature. In particular, this project explores the parallels between women and water. Water gives life, women give birth. The women floating in tide pools in many shots evoke the womb and embryonic fluid. Like water, women are often disrespected and polluted, but both can be restored and purified with awareness and proper treatment. There is a spiritual element both visually and verbally in the series as many of the images represent Hawaiian goddesses metaphorically.
